Curator Andrin Lutz and Artist Zhu Miaoyong

Since 2009 I have lived and worked in Greater China (Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong) on and off. I immersed myself deeply into the Chinese culture by studying its history, language and the arts.

​

This path has led me to contemporary Chinese art, which is booming in all the large cities. Eventually, I met artist Zhu Miaoyong, who works from his studio in one of Shanghai’s most renowned art districts. Most artworks do not intrigue me and are fast forgotten. Mr. Zhu’s artworks are an exception – every time I look at them, they seem to radiate a different light and I discover new details. The simplicity, combined with a bit of spiritualism and traditional elements such as Chinese characters, help to keep me grounded and bring color to my life.
